Raeven van den Acker
PhD candidate
Raeven is a PhD candidate in the mountain hydrology group focusing on synoptic scale orographic precipitation processes in the Himalaya, Karakoram and Pamir mountain ranges. She will investigate the interaction between the extreme topography of these mountains with large scale atmospheric processes through a combination of field measurements, remote sensing, and models.
Raeven started with a bachelor’s in physics, while always nurturing a passion for mountains and weather, so completed a master’s at Utrecht University in Climate Physics before continuing with her PhD with the mountain hydrology group. Her master’s thesis focused on modeling the subglacial hydrology of the Greenland Ice Sheet.
